Probing helix formation in chains of vertex-linked octahedra{{

چکیده
The rational design of crystal structures based on the chemical nature of molecular components, a longstanding and exciting research topic in organic solid state chemistry, is an emerging theme of crystal engineering in inorganic solid state chemistry. In particular, noncentrosymmetric structures, or those lacking inversion symmetry, are important for future technologies that are based on piezoelectricity, pyroelectricity, ferroelectricity and second harmonic generation (SHG). Materials that exhibit these properties provide a large and new class of solids for studies in basic science associated with the noncentrosymmetric (chiral, polar, or chiral–polar) space groups. Structures comprised of vertexlinked octahedra are common in inorganic solids. The subject of our Highlight is the rational synthesis of linear, zigzag or helical chains when two vertices of an octahedron, which are either adjacent (cis) or opposite (trans), are linked.

A MODEL FOR THE BASIC HELIX- LOOPHELIX MOTIF AND ITS SEQUENCE SPECIFIC RECOGNITION OF DNA
A three dimensional model of the basic Helix-Loop-Helix motif and its sequence specific recognition of DNA is described. The basic-helix I is modeled as a continuous ?-helix because no ?-helix breaking residue is found between the basic region and the first helix. When the basic region of the two peptide monomers are aligned in the successive major groove of the cognate DNA, the hydrophobi...
متن کاملTHE CRYSTAL CHEMISTRY OF SILICATE MINERALS WITH CHAINS OF (TiO6) OCTAHEDRA
Chains of (TiO6) octahedra occur in several crystal structures as fundamental building blocks, confirming the tendency of self-polymerization for (TiO6) octahedra. There are two topologically distinct types of chains based on linkage of (TiO6) octahedra, corner-sharing chains and edge-sharing chains. In this paper, we focus on the diversity of linkages between chains of (TiO6) octahedra and (Si...
متن کاملCharacterization of type III procollagen from chick embryo blood vessels.
The precursors of collagen types I and III were extracted from radioactively labeled chick embryo blood vessels. Procollagen III was found to consist of three identical proa III chains, each containing a large amino and a large carboxyl propeptide. Interchain disulfide bridges occur at three locations: between the amino propeptides, the carboxyl propeptides, and within the vertebrate collagenas...
متن کاملSynthesis and Crystal Structure of K6Mo10O33
A new potassium molybdenum oxide, K6Mo10O33, was synthesized by solid state reaction from the appropriate quantities of pre-dried MoO3 and K2MoO4, fired at around 650 ◦C for 2 d. The structure has been solved by using single crystal X-ray diffraction. The compound adopts the space group P1, with the lattice constants a = 7.7100(5), b = 11.9659(8), c = 17.1321(12) Å, α = 86.42 (10), β = 77.18(10...
متن کاملInfluence of ligand geometry on the formation of In-O chains in metal-oxide organic frameworks (MOOFs).
Three indium-oxide organic frameworks, In(2)O(1,3-BDC)(2), 1; In(OH)(2,6-NDC)(H(2)O), 2; and In(OH)(2,7-NDC)(H(2)O), 3 (BDC = benzene dicarboxylic acid and NDC = naphthalene dicarboxylic acid), were synthesized and characterized by thermogravimetric analysis, infrared spectroscopy, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Previously, we reported the structure of In(OH)(1,4-BDC).(0.75H(2)BDC), 0, w...
